The Texas Takeover Party, an official CMJ party, will take place on Thursday, October 18, at Rebel NYC at 5 PM and will offer free admission and drinks (while supplies last). Texas-based tastemakers The Convoy Group, Eye In The Sky Collective and Regressive Records have packed up some of Texas' finest young musicians and are exporting them to The Big Apple for the week to share with our northern neighbors at CMJ Music Marathon (October 16-20).
Representing the Lone Star state are: Robert Ellis, of Houston, TX and New West Records, has a soothing southern voice and always proves a country-lickin’ guitar maven. The New York Times described Ellis’ music as, “equally inspired by Jackson Browne and George Jones.” Fellow New West artists and Houstonians, Grandfather Child will bring their lap steel, gospel-inspired, rhythm and blues to the party in support of their brand self-titled album . Austin’s Wild Child will also be gracing the stage. With an upcoming spot on Austin City Limits Festival, and for good reason, this indie-folk band plays soulful and passionate tunes that any music lover can enjoy. The chic, cool and trendy psych rockers, The Tontons from Houston, TX will also be rocking the party. Their catchy music landed them a spot at last year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival as well as recent appearances at Pop Montreal. Another band invading the big city stage is New York City Queens. This multifaceted, pop indie-rock band, ironically from Houston, TX, intertwines a variety of pop music with a mix of vocal stylings to make their own dreamy, polished sound. Shakey Graves of Austin, TX has been dubbed the best damn one man show in town and is bringing his dark folk tunes to CMJ. His soulful, sultry and expressive music has earned him the honor of Austin’s mayor proclaiming an official “Shakey Graves Day”. The Texas Takeover Party will also feature Josiah Hall of Houston, Texas. His romantic and charming vocals match perfectly with his enchanting use of guitar and banjo. Last but certainly not least, electro-indie-rockers Technicolor Hearts will open the night.
Official Lineup: Robert Ellis, Wild Child, The Tontons, New York City Queens, Shakey Graves, Grandfather Child and Technicolor Hearts. The Texas Takeover Party is brought to you by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Brooklyn Vegan/ BVAustin, Pabst Blue Ribbon, The Convoy Group, Regressive Records and Eye in the Sky Collective. We are pleased to present these artists to you and look forward to your attendance. To RSVP, please visit http://txtakeoverparty.com/
