AMERICANA MUSIC ASSOCIATION CONGRATULATES MUMFORD & SONS ON BABEL’S NO. 1 TOP 200 BILLBOARD DEBUT

Four Americana Artists Rank in Top 20 of Same Chart
 
The Americana Music Association congratulates its 2011 Americana Emerging Artist Mumford & Sons on its No. 1 Billboard Top 200 debut, Babel, this week.  
 
Recent releases Tempest, by the first ever Best Contemporary Folk/Americana GRAMMY® winner (2007) Bob Dylan, and The Carpenter, by three time Americana Group/Duo of the Year The Avett Brothers (2007, 2010, 2011), both debuted in the Top 5 of Billboard’s September 19th chart. In addition, the self-titled Lumineers album strongly represent Americana as one of the best selling music genres according to Billboard’s Top 20 today.
 
On a related sales note, 2012 Americana Group/Duo of the Year, the Civil Wars recently celebrated its RIAA Gold certification for sales of more than 500,000 of Barton Hollow.
 
“More and more artists are finding inspiration in American roots traditions and a very unique and special community has grown out of that,” said Jed Hilly Executive Director of the Americana Music Association. “It's exciting to see sales reflecting these connections.”
 
Fueled by musical legends Bonnie Raitt, Booker T. Jones and Richard Thompson, the next generation of stars including Alabama Shakes, Punch Brothers and John Fullbright, along with music industry heavyweights, the 2012 Americana Music Festival and Conference saw over 15,000 fans, 300 artists and more than 1,200 music industry professionals, experiencing the unparalleled five day celebration of American Roots inspired music.
 
The Association’s capstone event, the Americana Music Honors & Awards aired live nationally on September 12 via AXS TV, broadcast via SiriusXM, WSM radio, and streamed by NPR.org. Musical segments of the Americana Honors & Awards show will appear on PBS nationwide during a special presentation: "ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival 2012" beginning November 10 in the Austin City Limits time slot.  Additional international radio broadcasts via BBC2 and Voice of America began airing September 23.  
 
The Americana Music Association is a professional non-profit trade organization whose mission is to promote awareness, provide a forum, and advocate for the creative and economic vitality of the Americana music genre. The Association produces events throughout the year including the annual Americana Music Festival and Conference, presented by Nissan, will take place September 18-22, 2013 in Nashville, TN.
